Christian said: ‘I had the idea of photographing dogs catching treats after I wanted to test a new flash and freeze action possibilities.

So I put my dog, Lotte, in front of the camera, but nothing happened, so I started throwing treats to get movement in the scene. And that’s how my series, Dogs Catching Treats, was born. It would be best if you had a connection to the dogs so that you could work with them

If you don’t have their attention and will to work with you, it’s hard to get inspirational pictures. It would be best if you had an idea of what you want. It sounds simple, but that affects how you work with the dog in the studio.

When I started photographing, I was new to all techniques, and I didn’t want to use human models for practice because I was never sure if the results would meet expectations. So that’s when I started exploring every camera technique with my dog Lotte.

The delightful hound images are a great source of entertainment for dog lovers.

The world-famous calendar Dogs catching treats and its siblings.

You can find many breeds there, from the German Shepherd to the Rotwailer to smaller denominations such as Corgis or Poodles. Each of them, with its funny face, tries to catch a morsel thrown off target.

Then there are the two brown dogs with brown eyes and floppy ears, hoping to jump first to catch their treats; a white dog with black ears, blue eyes, and black spots, and a dark brown dog with hazel eyes and pointed ears, also competing to catch their treats first.

On the other hand, how can you not be fascinated by a black and white spotted dog with one brown and one blue eye who smiles at the camera, showing off his shiny white gnashers? All these shots were immortalised to create a beautiful dog calendar. You can also buy one on Christian Vieler’s website.
